My cat has started to urinate (eliminate, defecate) outside the litter box!
Can you take my cat?

We do not take cats in from the public (our mission is the trapping, sterilizing and releasing of free-roaming cats) we can give you information and resources to help you find a solution.

We have a few suggestions, hopefully something you haven't tried before.

First, your cat needs a thorough veterinary exam.

Sometimes cats take a dislike to a certain type of litter, changing that may help. Sometimes de-clawed cats have this behavior because they don't like the feel of litter on their bare paws.

If you have other cats, that may be a factor; some cats don't like "sharing" a potty. Make sure there is at least one box for every two cats, and one on each floor of your home.

Move the litter box near the spot where the cat has been going potty, once the cat is re-established using the litter box, you may gradually move it to an area more acceptable to you.

If you recently moved, or had another major change in your household, the cat could be reacting to the disturbance.

Try confining him to a bathroom or crate for a while. This way your cat can be re-trained to only do business in the litter box!

Keep an eye on your cats food, too...make sure you are feeding a quality food, and providing plenty of fresh drinking water. Re-circulating water dishes can be helpful in getting your pet to drink more.

He may need more amusements, and this could be an attempt to get your attention...
