I need to find a new home for my cat.
Can you take him into your Sanctuary?

We do not take cats in from the public (our mission is the trapping, sterilizing and releasing of free-roaming cats), but we can give you information and resources to help you find a solution.

Ask friends and neighbors if they can help you. Contact your veterinarian. You may be able to put up a flyer in their clinic.  Please remember to ask for a donation and screen applicants so your cat gets a good home.

You can place an ad in your local paper or on Craig's list or the Austin Pets Alive Handbill. Ask for an adoption fee to prevent your pet from becoming a research subject, dog bait, or worse. Unfortunately we know there are some unsavory people out there who would harm these innocent animals.

Contact the Austin Humane Society (512) 837-7985 or email at receiving@austinhumanesociety.org. They do not usually take cats over the age of 7, or adult cats during kitten season. You may be placed on a waiting list. You should expect to make a donation.

Consider other local shelters, such as the Central Texas SPCA and the Humane Society of Williamson County.

If you have cats of a specific breed, such as Maine Coon or Siamese, check out local rescues at www.austinrescue.com.

Contact Austin Pets Alive! and their Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (P.A.S.S.) for more info.  The P.A.S.S. Program was created to help people help their pets to find new homes or to stay in their current homes. APA works together with you to determine and implement the best solution for you and your pet. They offer advice and assistance with solving behavioral or medical issues, and limited assistance with rehoming your pet. If you have a question about a dog you adopted or want to adopt, email adopt@austinpetsalive.org or call (512) 961-6519. The P.A.S.S. program is staffed solely by dedicated volunteers. We are committed to assisting you, but resources are limited.
