It's always wonderful to see a
PayPal donation come in, or to open an envelope
and find a check inside - and there are
certainly lots of costs in caring for all our
cats that we couldn't manage without those
donations. But there's also something really
nice about checking the mail and finding a
couple of boxes of much-needed food for our
kitties...and now there's a way you can make
that happen through our Amazon.com wishlist!
With all our sanctuary cats, and the 400 feral
cats in colonies we help support, we go through
a LOT of food. The wishlist makes it really easy
for you to buy food and have it sent directly to
our kitties. There's a selection of dry and
canned foods, and every item on the list is
eligible for Amazon's free shipping on purchases
over $25. And there's another special feature
that makes it even easier for you to send food
and get a big discount - some items are eligible
for Amazon's "Subscribe and Save" feature. When
you choose this option you can set up an
automatic recurring purchase of that item at any
interval you choose. When you do, Amazon gives
you an additional 15% discount, and shipping is
free with no minimum purchase. When you choose
the "Subscribe and Save" option, the Amazon
system has a glitch - it does not fill in the
Shadow Cats shipping address and you'll need to
do that:

Several people have asked how we chose the items
on the wishlist. We limited our selections to
only items eligible for Amazon's free shipping -
there's no point in asking you to buy $20 worth
of food and then pay $12 to have it shipped to
us! We try to feed a good quality food to our
feral colonies, but without going overboard -
many of the super premium dry foods can be
outrageously expensive. Our sanctuary cats get a
steady diet of dry food that we are currently
able to buy in bulk, but we supplement that with
a wet feeding every day. Not only is that a big
treat for them, but also an important part of a
healthy diet. Top quality foods are terrific,
but again we have a lot of mouths to feed and
usually make up a mixture of a variety of
different kinds of canned food from whatever we
have on hand each day. You'll find several
choices on the wishlist, all of which our
kitties love. And an important staple in our
food locker is Fancy Feast, there's something
about it that cats just can't resist. We use it
for cats who are ailing, elderly, or feeble and
just not eating well, and also when we have to
mix a cat's medicine in with their food - no one
leaves half a plate of Fancy Feast uneaten!
There's one quirk in the Wishlist process on
Amazon - they don't tell us who the shipments
are from! When you purchase an item from our
wishlist, during the checkout process there will
be a box you can check to indicate that it's a
gift. Do this and it will give you the option to
include a message with your gift. In that
message box if you'll enter your name and email
we'll be able to thank you properly. There's
enough space to also include a short note if you
like. So please do this - the kitties like to
know the names of their heroes ;o)
