Trap, Neuter and Return Now Legal in Round Rock

The recent national survey showing Round Rock was the 13th safest city to live has now also become a safe city for feral cats. Trap, Neuter and Return has become part of Round Rock's animal control ordinance which passed with a unanimous vote by the City Council — the progressive nature of this city's leadership was once again displayed.

Shadow Cats Rescue and Street Cat Rescue, both feral oriented non profit organizations based in Round Rock worked closely with the Police Department and the City Manager to develop a TNR program that the City could embrace. Support and involvement by Alley Cat Allies, Town Lake Animal Center, Austin Humane Society and all that care about feral cats made this a reality. After months of work and review, the final draft was readied and expertly presented to the Council by Asst. Chief Ryle. The proposal was met with some questions and clarifications but was resoundingly passed on the first reading.

The results of the Councils' vote was immediately met by a thunderous round of applause in city council chambers! Trap, Neuter and Return is now a recognized and legal alternative to Trap and Euthanize and we are very happy that the humane treatment and care of feral cats in Round Rock is now decriminalized.

Way to go and thank you to all those who care about feral cats!
