SPONSOR-A-CAT

I have a sponsor!

Black kitties are the best! I met Woodrow briefly during my first trip to Shadow Cats! I look forward to seeing him again, unless, of course, his Forever Home comes along!
This sponsorship is for my sister Connie. She had decided to only adopt all black kitties! I currently have 2 feline nephews, Crenshaw Jack (our little black cat!) and Al Jolson (a tuxie, but he is mostly black!) and my 1 feline niece, Mona Grace. Gracie is a gorgeous, long haired black kitty. All wonderful kitties!
Thank you Shadow Cats for all that you do for the cats and your local community!

Woodrow                           Born 2/15/08

Woodrow has the distinction of having one of the best-posed pictures of any sanctuary cat. And he posed all by himself! Usually the cats manage to blink, run and hide, or otherwise frustrate our efforts to capture their cutest moments, but Woodrow seemed to realize this was a great chance to show off!

At Austin’s Town Lake Animal Center, Woodrow’s prospects were bleak with a diagnosis of FeLV. But now in Cookie’s Place at the sanctuary, life is pretty wonderful for him. He loves the outdoors, and initially spent a lot of time in the outside enclosure. But now that he’s settled in, he’s decided that people are a
lot of fun to be around, so whenever there’s a volunteer in the room he usually comes around for his share of TLC. Woodrow is young, muscular, playful, affectionate…and, of course, a great model.

Woodrow's luck has continued in the several years he's been at the sanctuary.  He started losing weight, often a sign of a medical issue, especially in feline leukemia cats - but it turned out that he had just developed a bad case of gingivitis, and a thorough dental treatment fixed him right up.  In fact, his sore mouth had inhibited his eating a little, and with that problem resolved he immediately filled out and packed on an extra pound or two.  Then a year after that he developed a more serious condition - bladder stones that could cause a urinary blockage, not an uncommon problem in young male cats.  The resolution for this problem turned out to be a major and expensive surgery, something few feline leukemia cats anywhere are likely to receive.  But the Shadow Cats sanctuary isn't just anywhere, and Woodrow got the surgery and has been doing fine ever since.  Some people might say Woodrow is a "high maintenance" cat...but to us, he's just like any other kitty who deserves every chance at a wonderful life that we can possibly give them.
