One feral cat
colony in Round Rock was in an area with many
coyotes and other predators, and consequently
led to a very tenuous existence for its
inhabitants. Jet, another of our sanctuary cats
who passed recently, was rescued there many
years ago. At the same time, her three-month-old
kitten was trapped in a tree at that colony and
so became……Tree Cat. Tree Cat looks very much
like her mom, except that she’s a bit larger and
has a tiny smudge of white on her back….pretty
handy for picking her out from among several
other long-haired black cats at the sanctuary.
Tree Cat is in her mid-teens now but is still
going strong. She used to enjoy running all over
the Outback, and just like her mother Jet, she
particularly loved all of the ramps, platforms,
and decks – the higher the better. After all,
with a name like Tree Cat……what would you
expect? But she is also really affectionate and
loves to be petted. And she has a special way of
showing how much she likes you – she likes to
gently bite your nose. These days she’s doing
that indoors on the Uptown porch, where the cold
winters are a little easier on our older
kitties. And when she realized that the cats in
Nana’s Corner get Fancy Feast several times a
day, she started sneaking in there every chance
she gets. ;o)
