Sterling                      Born 6/11/09

Most of the sanctuary cats have become pretty well-socialized as a result of getting lots of attention from our volunteers over the past few years. As we begin 2011 our newest resident, Sterling, will be their latest special project. Sterling was trapped as a feral kitten and grew up in a home but never did well with people. Recently he’d been acting out more and more, and so he’s moved to the sanctuary in the hope that he can become a little better adjusted to life with people.

Initially Sterling was determined to show us how much he disliked us – the first few days he was here you couldn’t even push a plate of Fancy Feast onto his shelf without wearing a leather glove!  But we’ve seen this story before – more than one sanctuary cat who started out this way eventually came around and now enjoys human attention and affection. In the Outback, he can have as much privacy – or eventually, we hope – as much attention as he wants. We have lots of patience, and we’ll give Sterling as much time and space as he needs.  Already he's begun coming out for the daily wet feedings - and amazingly, it's not for the food...he wants to be petted!  When it's calm and quiet, with few people around, Sterling can now be seen occasionally strolling through the Outback.  And who knows - maybe one day he'll stroll right over to someone and jump up into their lap.   ;o)
