Being stuck in the Nevada desert with hundreds
of other cats, and terribly neglected, would be
hard for anyone. But to be there without the
human affection that she needs as much as food
and water must have been unbearable for this
sweet girl. Diamond was part of the Great Kitty
Rescue in Pahrump, Nevada and came to Shadow
Cats with a group of feline leukemia kitties
through the Best Friends organization in 2007.
When she arrived at the
sanctuary, Diamond was in a constant frantic
state, at least whenever people were around. She
would do anything and everything to get your
attention – jumping, climbing up your leg,
constantly talking to you (well, OK – shouting
at you).
It was
no time at all before Diamond settled into life
in Cookie's Place - she seemed to realize that
she was in a good place and could count on being
well cared for. And more importantly, she
could count on volunteers coming every day to
play with her! Diamond became famous for
jumping on your back - check out the video at
the left. She's been a fixture on the
Kitty Cam for years, and has fans all over the
country.
Late
in 2011, Diamond developed malignant polyps in
her ear. This is never a good sign in
feline leukemia cats, but Dr. Smith and his
staff at Central Texas Cat Hospital have been
able to remove them although they continue to
grow back. She gets daily medication to
help minimize any discomfort, and we keep a
close eye on her. Diamond has slowed down
a little, but still has those same bright eyes
and is often one of the first ones to come claim
a volunteer's lap. She's getting the very
best of care, and all the love we can give her.
