Daisy was rescued, along with Annie, from a
hoarding situation in the fall of 2010. She was
scheduled to go to a barn placement but got sick
and came to stay at the sanctuary to recover.
Once winter set in, we didn’t want to release
her into new surroundings in such cold weather,
so she stayed in a private enclosure in the
Outback until spring. But by then it had become
clear that she was quite a bit more social than
feral, so we decided to let her stay at the
sanctuary.
The minute we opened the door to
her room and gave her full access to the
Outback, you could see the excitement in her
eyes. She immediately began making tentative
trips out to explore the Outback, and the other
cats of course came over to meet her too. She
kept going back to check on Annie, who was still
afraid to come out – as if to reassure her
roommate that it was just fine in the Outback
and to report back on what she had seen.
Watch for Daisy in the Outback – she’s likely to
be running all over the place, and hopefully
she’ll eventually decide that people, and laps,
look pretty wonderful too!
