Cecil

Some of the sanctuary cats have come from far away….others, like Cecil, from right around the corner. Someone in the neighborhood moved away and abandoned poor Cecil. He was found wandering around, skinny and starving, and with badly infected gums and teeth. But luckily for Cecil, the key word in that sentence is FOUND – and not just by anyone but by Shadow Cats. Soon he was off to Central Texas Cat Hospital for a full dental treatment and had to have all of his teeth removed.  He recovered from that and did very well for a while.  One day in February 2012 someone met Cecil and decided to adopt him....but on the day that he was set to go to his new home he was stricken with a serious illness which turned out to be CRF, Chronic Renal Failure.  His kidney function had deteriorated and sadly this condition is neither curable nor reversible.  It will ultimately be fatal.

CRF does not take the same course with each cat it affects, and we don't know how long Cecil will have with us now.  He'll remain a sanctuary cat to insure he's constantly monitored and gets the care he needs as his condition progresses.  He's still as sweet as ever, and we wonder sometimes when he gazes out the window whether he's thanking his lucky stars that he's not having to go through this alone and scared - Shadow Cats will be with him every single day, and he'll be showered with TLC on every one of those days.  And the adopters who Cecil wasn't able to go live with won't lose touch with him either....they became his sponsors!
