It’s hard to believe that Blossom
is already a year old. The day I met Sheila
Smith, Shadow Cats President, to look into
volunteering, the first thing she did was
introduce me to little Blossom who was
recovering from her eye surgery. Little did I
know that a month or two later, unable to get
that precious face out of my mind, I’d wind up
taking her home. And we could never have
imagined the joy that Blossom has brought into
our lives every waking moment (and more than a
few when we’re trying to sleep).
Nor did I realize that it would be not just
Blossom, but all the cats of Shadow Cats who
would completely steal my heart. As a Sanctuary
volunteer, I treasure every minute I get to
spend there – whether it’s building a new
enclosure in the Outback, helping to pill a
roomful of cats, or just sitting on the floor
covered in furry little bundles of love. The
sanctuary is an amazing place – all the
residents have their every material need taken
care of, the only thing they want more of is the
personal TLC that the volunteers provide. How
often can you make such an important
contribution by simply sitting and petting a
bunch of cats?
Most of the sanctuary residents are “special
needs” cats who would have had no place else to
go, and there are very few groups like Shadow
Cats. Times are getting tougher, but the need
continues…..if you are able, won’t you please
help out? Buy a raffle ticket, make a PayPal
donation, contribute materials and supplies,
come volunteer, or check out the adoption
listings. You can’t change the world by saving
one cat, but you can sure change the world for
that cat… just look at Blossom. Help Shadow
Cats to keep changing their world!
