A Note from Blossom's Dad on Her Second Birthday

Blossom is not our little kitten any more – she’s two years old now! After meeting so many cats at the Shadow Cats sanctuary over the past two years I know how special and unique every single cat is…but really, Blossom is truly one of a kind. You’ve heard the old phrase about “marching to the beat of a different drummer”. Well, my wife Mary likes to say that Blossom “hears the sound of a different ukulele”.

Blossom will be walking along and then, seemingly at random, just plop down and lay on her back with her paws tucked neatly under her chin, for fifteen minutes.

She does this a lot – we call it “doing the backstroke”. She’ll just lay there and if you walk by she’ll follow you with her eye but otherwise won’t budge. And if you stop to rub her tummy she’s in heaven – stretching out and writhing in ecstasy.

Blossom doesn’t do laps – we’re still trying to get her to sit in our lap but that just doesn’t seem to be her thing. When she’s curled up in a favorite spot she loves to be petted, but she won’t even come sit with us on the couch. When we go to bed, though, the moment the lights go out she jumps right up and HAS to curl up on Mary’s legs to sleep – she’ll spend a few minutes making biscuits getting her spot just right, and then settles in for the night.

Blossom loves to play and run around with Cairo and Tiger Lily, and gets along great with everyone. But more often than not she’s running around on her own or investigating something by herself – more than any of our other cats she seems to be off in her own little world. She’s playful, inquisitive, adventurous, and is certainly the happiest little cat I’ve ever known. No matter what Blossom is doing, she ALWAYS looks completely happy-go-lucky, without a care in the world, just enjoying every moment…and listening to that ukulele. ;o)
