Adoption Policy & Fees
Adoption Policy
-
Existing pets in the home must be
spayed/neutered.
-
Shadow Cats does not allow cats/kittens to be
given as gifts. We believe the intended recipient
needs to be involved in the decision to make a
lifetime commitment to the cat.
-
Shadow Cats does not do "same day" adoptions.
However, our volunteers work very hard to process
applications as quickly as possible. No adoption is
final until an adoption contract is signed by both
parties and the adoption fee is collected.
-
In order to provide the best home for the cat,
if there are any dogs that will be in the home, we
may need to assess the compatibility and temperament
of the animals.
-
Shadow Cats knows that sometimes, a new adoptive
pet just does not work out. If at any time, you feel
it is not "working out" with your new cat, you are
required to return the cat to Shadow Cats Rescue.
Giving the cat to a friend or family member, taking
it to a shelter, or releasing it outside is
unacceptable and considered a breach of contract.
Adoption Fees
-
Our cats receive a number of services in order to
make sure our cats are healthy and happy. In order
to achieve this, our cats are fed a high quality
diet, and are "fully vetted" before being adopted.
They are all spayed or neutered, tested for disease,
micro-chipped for identification, receive age
appropriate vaccinations and are de-wormed and
treated for fleas.
-
Our adoption fee is $75.00
which covers only a portion of the costs of caring
for these cats during their stay with us. Monthly
food, litter, flea treatments, and other veterinary
expenses as needed easily exceed the adoption fee.
-
So while some people believe that a "free kitten" is
the way to go, the truth is that when they provide
this basic level of care for the cat, they will
actually end up paying more than twice as much as
the typical adoption fee charged.
