There
are several reasons a cat may live in the
Outback area of the sanctuary. Some are
semi-feral or very reclusive and want to be able
to hide…not Mikey. Some just like the outdoors,
and the freedom to have lots of room to climb
and roam…..not Mikey. Then there are those who
are, shall we say, “litter box
challenged”…..bingo! If you visit the Outback
often, you’ll learn pretty quickly not to leave
any personal items laying around unattended for
very long. If you forget that rule, Mikey or
one of his friends will very likely remind you
of it! He doesn’t seem to realize that there
are better ways to get people to remember him
when they go home. ;o)
Mikey hangs out near the staircase, or in the
upper part of the Outback near the house. He
loves people and craves attention, but if you go
sit in the chairs down in the lower area to pet
and hold cats he usually won’t come to you –
you’ll have to go pick him up and put him in
your lap. He’s not exactly shy, so he must just
like playing hard to get. You’ll also notice
him sniffling and wheezing a lot – he has a
chronic respiratory condition, but don’t worry
because, like all of the other Shadow Cats, he’s
getting the care and medication he needs every
day. Mikey was a stray rescued at an Austin
apartment complex by Sheila’s daughter. All he
needs from you is a little extra love!
