At first it seemed too difficult to begin
writing Bella’s story. But in many ways, Bella
exemplifies how Shadow Cats impacts the lives of
the angels in our care, so her story needs to be
told.
|
|
When a cat has the feline
leukemia virus, almost no one will take them. As
one of the few groups equipped to care for
feline leukemia (FeLV) kitties, Shadow Cats
tries to save them when we have a space
available. We took Bella in, and it turned out
that she also had a diaphragmatic hernia that
placed her life in jeopardy and required
immediate surgery to correct. Unfortunately,
during the surgery they also found a cancerous
lesion on her liver that likely gives her only a
few months to live. |
|

She survived the surgery and began to recover.
One would never know from looking at her that
she is in anything but prime health. Her coat is
full and thick, she is sweet natured and is
loving every bit of her life.

 |
Yes, this is sad. But imagine how much sadder it
would have been for Bella to have spent her
final days alone, in fear and confusion. Instead
she is now surrounded by love, and will get
every bit of TLC we can give her for as long as
we can. She has gained five pounds, loves to
play in the bathtub, and sleeps on the bed. The
truth is, we often don’t know whose days are
numbered until the last minute, so knowing that
Bella’s time is short allows us to make certain
that it is filled with peace and that she knows
how much she is loved and cared for. It can be
very hard…but not doing it would be so much
harder. |
