Adopting a Shadow Cat

While our main focus is on helping and caring for special needs cats, we do have quite a few cats available for adoption. Our adoption process is a bit more involved than traditional shelters but this is to ensure that both the adopter and the cat are well taken care of and well supported. We consider these cats part of our extended family. We have taken many of these cats from terrible situations and spent countless hours caring for and loving these cats so we will always have a connection to them and consider them part of the Shadow Cats Family. Once a Shadow Cat always a Shadow Cat!

Note: not all cats are available for adoption. Please check our listing at Petfinder for available cats.

The Adoption Process

Our adoption process will take several days. This gives you and the cat time to meet, bond, and make a well thought out decision. All household members must be in agreement on adopting a pet. We encourage all household members to meet the pet prior to adoption. If all household members are in agreement, an application is filled out by the potential adopter. Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by our Sanctuary Director and Sanctuary Manager. After that, we can schedule a meet and greet with you and the cat/s you might be interested in. We do require a house visit to review the environment in which the cat would be living and the individuals that may be living with the cat.

If all parties agree on the adoption, the final paperwork will be signed and the kitty can be picked up to go to their new loving home!

For special needs cats or cats with Feline Leukemia, the adopter will be required to have a sit-down educational session at the sanctuary. This is to ensure the adopter has a complete understanding of their new best friend’s needs.

We reserve the right to refuse adoption. If your application for the adoption of a pet is not approved, we will do our best to explain the reason(s). A denial is not necessarily a rejection of you as a person; it is a refusal to place a pet in a situation that we do not feel is a good match or does not meet our policies.
