About Us

Shadow Cats is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of abused, abandoned, feral, stray, and injured cats in Round Rock, Austin and surrounding areas. We do not take in owner-released animals, but instead focus our efforts into helping un-owned stray and feral cats and kittens through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). We also support community and feral cats through the One Life Fund, the Feral Emergency Fund and other community outreach efforts.

Shadow Cats Mission:

Shadow Cats will respect and show compassion to all animals. We will improve the lives of abused, abandoned, feral, stray, and injured cats. We will promote spay and neuter programs, promote Trap, Neuter and Return as the most humane method of effecting positive change in feral cat populations, provide educational and informational assistance to the public, re-home socialized cats and kittens and provide medical care to those cats under Shadow Cats guardianship.

Board of Directors

Sheila Smith Co-President/Founder

Sheila has been involved in feline welfare for over twenty years. She grew up in a family of animal lovers, but her own advocacy work began in 1996 when she first began feeding a group of stray cats and learned about Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR). Sheila and her husband founded Shadow Cats in 1997 and it was incorporated in 2004. Sheila continued to work diligently with city leaders in several Texas towns to change ordinances to legalize TNR. She also worked with city officials in Taylor, Texas to dismantle their gas chamber and assist them in becoming a No Kill facility. Sheila continues to be as passionate today about the welfare of community cats, special needs cats and feline leukemia cats as when the organization was founded. Sheila has served as a judge for the Cat Writers Association and received several awards for her activism. She is co-owner of a feline only, no declaw veterinary hospital along with her husband, RB Smith, DVM. Sheila spent her career as a practicing Registered Nurse for over twenty five years and now devotes her time to her husband, children, grandchildren, and of course the cats!

Jacki Quaile, Co-President

Growing up, there were always cats in her family, there are cherished pictures of grandparents in the 1920’s with cats in their laps. Her very own kitten was given to her by her dad at the tender age of five.  The kitten became very sick shortly after arriving home and she stayed with him around the clock to get him healthy again (with the help of her mum and dad) and he lived until he was 20! The love of cats was going to be part of her life from then on.

Jacki is a trained floral designer and event planner and owned her own business before moving to Texas. She has won many awards for her floral designs. Since being in Texas she has co-owned and built a successful commercial cleaning company with Steve ‘the love of her life’.

She was thrilled when she had the privilege of becoming a volunteer with Shadow Cats in 2008 and then invited to be a Board member and later  Co-President of such an incredible organization. With her commitment to the Shadow Cats mission, Jacki has been a driving force behind Shadow Cats.

As life changes, Jacki looks forward to dedicating more time to Shadow Cats in her role as Co-President, as well as enjoying time with Steve and her own feline gang.

Julie Young, Secretary

Julie has been a volunteer and board member for Shadow Cats since 2012. While looking for an organization to volunteer her time to, she found Shadow Cats and is incredibly thankful for that happy accident. She has always had animals in her life, even though it started out with dogs. She first fell in love with cats on her 21st birthday when her best friend gave her one which turned out to be the best present ever. Julie works for local IT company responsible for the business risk management and insurance programs for the company. Outside of work, Julie enjoys spending time with her husband, Greg, on the lake enjoying what Austin has to offer or being at home with their cats, including the two ex-feral cats who adopted them!

Rebecca McManamy, Treasurer

A 1985 graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in accounting, Rebecca has served as the treasurer for Shadow Cats since 2011. She has worked for the university system as a senior accountant and business analyst for the last 25 years and brings the same commitment to Shadow Cats.

Rebecca has had cats all her life and found them to be a great source of comfort and inspiration throughout her life. She is mom to two two-legged kids and five four-legged ones. Though not born in Texas, she got here as soon as she could! Rebecca enjoys spending time reading, gardening and spending time with her family.

Pam Lind, Member

Pam has always been an animal lover but her own involvement in animal welfare began in 2011. Pam joined Shadow Cats as a volunteer in 2012 and was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2015. She describes herself as a "Renaissance Geek" -- interested in just about anything & everything. Shadow Cats benefits from her diversity and interests. When she's not taking pictures of cats, Pam contributes her photography skills to a variety of fundraising activities. She is self-taught in graphic design and is the creative force behind many of Shadow Cats creative efforts and works to increase Shadow Cats social media presence. Pam is a firm believer in "love what you do and do what you love."

Pam graduated from college with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, but quickly realized accounting wasn't for her and made her career in the criminal justice field. She has served the people of the State of Texas for more than twenty-three years and has no plans for retirement anytime soon. And when she's not busy with Shadow Cats or work, Pam enjoys spending time with her husband, Greg Lind, and their four cats.
